The United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) 2016 report estimates the total number of floating macro and microplastics in the open ocean to be 5.25 trillion pieces
University of Georgia estimated 8 million metric tons entered the ocean in 2010 from people living near the coast; that is equivalent to 5 grocery bags full of plastic on every foot of coastline
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Marine Debris Program found that microplastics are present in the stomachs of many marine organisms from plankton species to whales
MISSION: Ensure the survival of the marine ecosystem and the health of the maritime economy by removing macro and microplastic debris from our oceans and returning the marine environment back to clear blue seas.
START UP STRATEGY: Secure crowdfunding for the initial design of our Floating Robot for Eliminating Debris (FRED), educational outreach, and technology roadmap. We also will apply for federal, NGO, and philanthropic grants for FRED prototype development. We will optimize our design and develop a small fleet of FREDs for a pilot project in the Pacific Gyre. Based on pilot findings, Clear Blue Sea will commercialize FRED fleets for deployment around the world.
We know we are tackling a huge problem so we need to:
$10 – Help Clear Blue Sea Set Up Shop
$100 – Help Clear Blue Sea Design FRED
$1000 – Help Clear Blue Sea Build FRED
